My constituency question is directed to the Minister for Public Transport and Minister for Roads and Road Safety, the Honourable Ben Carroll, MP. My question relates to the minister’s portfolio responsibilities for roads and roads safety.
Learner drivers are now able to sit their online hazard perception test from their homes in order to complete a crucial step towards gaining their licence. Statistics have shown that young and inexperienced drivers have a higher crash risk in their first year of driving, and this online test seeks to assess a driver’s ability to recognise and respond to potential hazards in the safest way possible, focusing on scenarios where probationary drivers are more likely to be involved in a crash. This is a life skill that is imperative to all drivers on our roads, for the safety of themselves and other road users.
My question to the minister is: can the minister please advise how this important service is being made aware to learner drivers in my electorate of Western Metropolitan Region?
The rolling out of the online hazard perception test builds on the success of the online learner permit test.
Once Victoria opens up from the pandemic, students will be able to resume taking their tests at VicRoads centres in person.
