Paryushana | Members Statement

Ms VAGHELA (Western Metropolitan):

On another note, Jains across the world are celebrating Paryushana. Jainism is an ancient Indian religion. The Shwetambar sect of Jainism observes Paryushana from 3 to 11 September, and Digambara Jains observe Paryushana from 10 to 19 September.

Paryushana means ‘abiding and coming together’. It is a time to consider soul searching and self-analysis. It is a celebration of spiritual awareness.

In Victoria, our Jain community accomplished an important milestone this year. On 4 August 2021, the foundation stone laying ceremony was conducted for the first Jain temple in Victoria by Melbourne Shwetambar Jain Sangh (MSJS). Jain temples in India are architectural marvels and I am sure this temple will also be a sight to behold.

I congratulate the entire MSJS team and the Jain community for their tireless community service. I wish our Jain community a happy Paryushana Parva.

Micchami Dukkadam! Jai Jinendra!
